We all welcome the monsoons in India…coming as it does after the scorching summer, monsoons offer much needed relief. While the mind and body seem to cool down in the monsoon season, it’s also the time to take extra care of what you eat as you are vulnerable to a variety of infections.
Watch your diet, watch out for some foods
The rains bring with them a craving for sizzling hot food and sweets, but the truth is that our digestive capacity is the weakest during this season. Digestion is always better in the warmer months. The monsoons also bring down our immunity levels and this is the main reason why many diseases have always been associated with the season.
The dosha that is the most affected is Vaata. Its accumulation in the body causes improper digestion and gas accumulation. Vaata must be in a balance through our diet and it is most important to be supplementing our diets to stay resistant to the diseases that one could possibly contract.
Here are a few diet pointers to see you through:
A warm beverage through the day is good!
Besides watching your diet, sipping warm beverages throughout the day can be quite helpful. Stick to natural ones, like Ginger coffee, Dhania coffee or Thulasi coffee or something similar that is home-made. Office goers could take this to work in a thermos flask – a simple way to strengthen the immune system.
