Malabar Erachi Curry

To serve 4 persons

Ingredient Quantity
Mutton 1 kg
Onion medium 2 nos
Chopped ginger 2 inch piece
Garlic 5 big cloves
Green chilli 3 medium sized
Tomato medium 3 nos
Melam Malabar Erachi Curry masala 2 -3 tbsp
Oil ½ cup
Grated Coconut ¾ cup
Mustard ½ tsp
Curry leaves One sprig
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
Chilli powder ¾ tsp
Coconut milk ½ cup
Salt To taste.

Cooking method:

  • Grind ginger, garlic & green chilli.
  • Heat a pan, add grated coconut. Once coconut becomes golden brown, add Melam Erachi Curry Masala.
  • Stir for 30 seconds & switch off.
  • Grind this mix into a thick paste.
  • Heat oil & splutter mustard, curry leaves.
  • Add onion, when it becomes golden brown add paste of ginger, garlic & chilli. Mix well.
  • Add mutton & stir continuously for 10 min on high flame.
  • Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt & tomato.
  • Cook till the oil separates.
  • Add 4 cups of water & boil.
  • Cook till the mutton is done.
  • Add masala paste.
  • Cook till the gravy becomes thick and add coconut milk.
  • Stir well and serve hot.
